See.... ALLLLL DAY. i wasn't kidding. glad i chose the strapless to lay out in; kicking myself for not taking off my oversized sunglasses.
I made a quick trip to Target on Wednesday to pick out some books to read. I've been meaning to start reading more, and finally decided to just quit being so lazy and go buy some books. Remember this post?? Well, I forgot how much I loved reading! I get so lost in the story and can't stop reading at all! I bought these books on Wednesday and I'm already done with both of them.
Girls in Trucks: 241 pages
Written by Katie Crouch, who grew up in Charleston, SC, this is a book dripping with southern codes and rules about a group of debutante girls raised and taught the rules of the Camellia Society of which they were born into in SC, as they all grow up and move north. They all end up in the New England area, with various dark problems of their own. The book overall is a little dark, and although there are soooo many southern points about it I love, there are also so many things these girls do that are NOT of southern approval that i hope northerners don't read it thinking these is truly how southern women behave and see as appropriate. Overall, it's a GREAT book though, if you can get past some of the embarrassing nonchalant sex, drug, and alcohol talk.
A lot of the beginning is great, where the girls just date the country boys out on the island during the summer and fish and go out on the boat and enjoy the summer like we all used to.
One of my favorite paragraphs, because it's so true:
"These, of course, are not the preppy boys we go to school with; these are the dirt-in-the-cracks-of the hands kind of boys, farmhands and fisherman who, once school starts, we'll let drift away. They can't dance and we can't take them to town, not ever, Charlotte and I agree, no. But they're nice to us because they're country and they're just glad to have any kind of girl along. They keep coolers for us full of beers and sodas and green boiled peanuts in Ziploc bags and tell us we're pretty as models. They're either blind or lying, but you know what? It's summer, and we don't care."

Shoe Addicts Anonymous: 327 pages
A series of books written by Beth Harbison that I will definitely be continuing on with. I actually can't wait to pick up the next book in the series-Secrets of a Shoe Addict. This book is SUCH an easy read. It's really light-hearted and not at all intense...but it's fun to read and talks about SHOES! It follows four different women who all have their own various life struggles that they are trying to hide. They are all brought together by a shoe addicts anonymous club that one of the women creates and posts on Gregslist.biz (Craigslist spin-off?). They help bring out the best in each other, open up to each other about their own personal struggles, and encourage each other and, of course, there is some great amazing happy ending.......that involves shoes, but of course! It's not a super impressive book, but it was great to distract me as I laid out by the pool.
